How many online courses are there?

• A census is difficult as most sites intermingle courses with online material versus courses entirely delivered online

• Nevertheless

  • Examples: LearningWeb and O’Reilly each offer more than 100 online courses

• An examination of yahoo produced over 400 courses matching the query "online courses <field>”

• My conclusion: There appears to be at least several hundred, and probably no more than several thousand such courses, but the number is growing rapidly
