Project 20

Project Name: Excel to Matlab Matrix Translation

Background:
The Survival Prediction Model (SPM) is used by researchers to predict a patient’s probability of survival. The Therapeutic Decision Support System (TDSS) is SPM’s practical counterpart. It provides real-time guidance for optimizing therapy.

Problem:
Clinicians usually use Excel spreadsheets to gather patient data, but SPM uses Matlab matrices as input. A mechanism for the translation of Excel data to Matlab matrices should be designed and implemented. Excel data that is incorrect, skipped or unavailable must be handled.

Constraints:
Excel is the tool that will be used for data input. An already written program in Matlab does the data processing. A database for data persistency is desired.

Desired Deliverables:
A tool that takes an Excel file as input and feeds this input into Matlab SPM is desirable.
