Homework 4: EasyWinWin

Objectives:

The objectives of this homework are to be familiar with GroupSystems software and the EasyWinWin process.

 

Background:

USC Center for Software Engineering (CSE) web site http://sunset.usc.edu/ has a public and private affiliate’s area.  During July 2000 we (USC-CSE) had requirements negotiation exercise about the affiliates private area, using GroupSystems EasyWinWin process, with some of the CSE affiliates. The brain storming items captured during the exercise is going to be the basis of this homework.

 

How to Connect Group Systems Online:

 

1.      Connect to GroupSystems Online:

·        Connect to http://gsonline.groupsystems.com/research/ web site using IE or Netscape.

·        User name:  SCF username

·        Password: will be sent to you in an email. When you get the password, access the GroupSystems Online portal, and change your password. Change password feature is under "Change Your Setting" tab in the GroupSystems Online portal.

 

2.      To run the GroupSystems Online double-click on the "Methodologies" under the "Choose a Workspace" tab in the GroupSystems Online portal. It will automatically start the GroupSystems Online program. If you are using your own computer, then the program will prompt you to install "Citrix ICA Web Client". Install the program by pressing YES. This will automatically starts the program.

 

3.      Add a folder by using “EasyWinWin_CSCI577a_HW” as a template. For more information about how to create a folder please look at the EasyWinWin Guidelines PDF (TT-01).

 

4. Follow the instructions your were given in your EasyWinWin Training (which you should have taken prior to doing this homework)

 

Activities (Steps) and instructions for this homework:

 

Go over the electronic brainstorming sheets and:

 

·        In the “Review and Expand Negotiation Topics (Group Outliner)” window, add at least 10 descriptions for the topics as comments under these negotiation topics.

·        In the “Brainstorm Stakeholder Interests (Electronic Brainstorming)” window, add at least 10 keywords related with the project.

·        In the “Converge on Win Conditions (Categorizer)” window, add at least 15 win conditions by using the brainstorming data in the "Brainstorm Stakeholder Interests (Electronic Brainstorming)" and then categorize them into the buckets. Try to write win conditions for each buckets except the "TBD" bucket. Try to write simple and clear win conditions that will fit exactly under one topic.

·        In the “Capture Glossary of Terms (Topic Commenter)” window, shift brainstorming comments from “Brainstorm Stakeholder Interests” activity and write definitions for the keywords you have identified in “Brainstorm Stakeholder Interests”.

·        In the “Prioritize Win Conditions (Alternative Analysis)” window, shift win conditions from “Converge on Win Conditions” activity and vote on the win conditions according to “Business Importance” and “Ease of Implementation”.

·        In the “WinWin Tree (Group Outliner)” window, shift win conditions from “Prioritize Win Conditions” activity and identify some (at least five) issues for the generated win conditions and some (at least five) options for the generated issues, and then agree on the win conditions which do not have issues or options that is identified for issues.

 

Deliverables for this homework:

 

Submit the following information from the EasyWinWin process:

 

·        The negotiation topics with the descriptions that you added

·        The keywords you added into the "Brainstorm Stakeholder Interests" and ONLY the definitions that you defined in "Capture Glossary of Terms". (Do not submit the rest of the comments under the keywords)

·        The win conditions that you added in the "Converge on Win Conditions"

·        The prioritization information for the win conditions (Only submit the following charts)

o       The horizontal bar chart appears, displaying the results by mean (check page 93 in EasyWinWin guideline)

o       The XY, or scatter, chart (check page 96 in EasyWinWin guideline)

·        The WinWin Tree with the win conditions, issues, options and agreements

 

 

You will need the EasyWinWin process guide to help you in completing this homework. Please submit a hard copy for grading. (An MS Word document will be generated automatically when selecting Report from the main GroupSystems window. The generated report is extremey detailed, but ONLY turn in the stuff you are asked for, nothing more -- That is, get rid of the 'extra' details. (FYI, after you create the document you can open it, copy the information from the document and create the report for your homework deliverables).
