Tutorial VII
Consultative Committee for Space Data Systems (CCSDS) Standards for Telemetry and Commanding
Length:
Half Day
Time:
1:00 - 4:30 P.M.
Overview:
The Consultative Committee for Space Data Systems (CCSDS)
recommendations for telemetry and command systems are
widely used in civil and commercial space systems, and are
beginning to be used by some DoD missions. This course summarizes the purpose and history of CCSDS, the scope of its recommendations, applications, and recent trends. Topics include standards for packet telemetry, telemetry channel coding,
packet telecommand, and command operating procedure (COP-1). The course will also cover more recent efforts to develop space optimized versions of the Internet protocols (the Space Communications Protocol Standards) and to standardize the network interface between users and ground stations (Space Link Extension). Case studies are presented exploring current CCSDS satellite and ground system architectures. The course has been offered at the International Telemetering Conference for the past
five years.
